The Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries 2018 Candidate’s Biography for the Office of 2nd Vice President

Brandy Kuhl

As head librarian at the Helen Crocker Russell Library of Horticulture at San Francisco Botanical Garden, I manage a 27,000-volume reference library devoted to horticulture and am responsible for maintaining, developing, and conserving the most comprehensive collection in Northern California. I also coordinate art exhibits and author talks, and contribute to the support of San Francisco Botanical Garden by encouraging gifts, and selling art and used books. The library features a 2,000-volume children’s botanical library, and children’s and family programs such as story time, a summer reading club, and author events; which are excellently managed by associate librarian Abbey Levantini.

I have been a member of the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries for several years and have been lucky enough to attend seven CBHL conferences. I am forever grateful to former HCRL head librarian Barbara Pitschel for personally covering the registration, flight, and hotel expenses for me to attend my first CBHL conference at the Elisabeth C. Miller Library at the University of Washington Botanic Gardens in 2010.

I have been on the Board of the California Garden & Landscape History Society since January 2016, and am currently serving as membership officer. I received my M.L.I.S. from San Jose State University and have contributed to Pacific Horticulture, The Botanical Artist, and Treasures from San Francisco Botanical Garden at Strybing Arboretum.

I would be honored to be able to serve on the board of directors for CBHL.

**The vote to elect the Second Vice President will occur the week of 4/23/2018, giving CBHL members 60 days to review the candidate’s bio.**
