Symposium
This IBC symposium, "Towards an International Plan for Preserving Botanical
Documentation: Critical Problems and Potential Solutions", was sponsored by CBHL, and was
developed by CBHL's Resources Assessment for Preservation and Access Committee (RAPAC).
The symposium was co-sponsored by the Historical Section of the Botanical Society of America.

Speakers
We want to thank the people who agreed to be speakers for this symposium: Laurence J. Dorr,
James L. Reveal, Sylvia M. D. FitzGerald, Judith Reed, Malcolm Beasley, Samuel Demas
and Margaret L. Hedstrom. They gave up time from their busy professional lives to participate
in the symposium, recognizing that the topic is important and that the IBC presents a good
opportunity for raising preservation awareness.

Posters
The IBC posters and accompanying handouts were created by Charlotte Tancin, John F. Reed and
Malcolm Beasley, with input from RAPAC members.
Lugene Bruno of Hunt Institute assisted in the production of the Tancin/Beasley poster,
and John's daughter Maya assisted in the production of the Reed poster. This assistance
is gratefully appreciated.

Webpages
The symposium webpages were originally produced by Charlotte Tancin, with input from Malcolm Beasley and RAPAC members.
Second version, Céline Arseneault, March 2002.
Images on these symposium pages (except for the CBHL logo or as otherwise noted) were provided
courtesy of the Trustees of The Natural History Museum, London, and any rights to the images
as they appear on our pages are held by them.
The descriptive captions for the images from NHM appearing on the two pages relating to preservation
of collection materials were written by Malcolm Beasley, NHM's Botany Librarian. Malcolm was a
co-convener of the symposium as well as being one of the speakers.

Resolution
CBHL contributed a resolution which was grouped with others and passed
by the Congress in its closing session. The text submitted to the resolutions committee
came from Charlotte Tancin, Sylvia Fitzgerald and Malcolm Beasley.

Related exhibit
An archival exhibit, "Frontier Botany", was on display at the Monsanto Center
of the Missouri Botanical Garden during the Congress. The display is the work of Doug Holland,
archivist of the Missouri Botanical Garden and a CBHL RAPAC member, and Angela Todd, assistant
archivist of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, with assistance from staff at
their respective institutions.

Thanks to CBHL
The working group that participated in these events would like to thank CBHL's Board, the RAPAC, and the CBHL membership for their support.

Thanks to IBC Staff
We would also like to thank the IBC staff, and especially Peter Hoch and
Barbara Kitrell, for their assistance.
